About ScoutMedia

Character Counts Mark Allen-CEO, ScoutMedia
ScoutMedia is a non-profit company who has teamed up with the OneHeart Foundation (501c3) to produce media tools for scout leaders to more effectively compete in the digital world in which our youth are growing up. ScoutMedia tools are supplemental to the scouting programs found throughout the world. ScoutMedia believes we have a great opportunity and obligation to capture and pass along traditional values from leaders around the world. The traditional values as found in scouting are the basis for healthy nations and for healthy families.

There are many lessons which have been learned from those who have found themselves in challenging experiences. Many of these stories would help the present generation come to understand the importance of being thrifty, the importance of love of country, the importance of family and patriotism, sadly these types of stories seldom are told in the mainstream media. There are stories which could lift and inspire the present generation, but only if they are recorded and preserved. These media tools give scout leaders and parents an opportunity to introduce merit badge ideas and to foster more meaningful conversations to things which really matter.

Proceeds from sales of items found on the ScoutMedia web site or affiliate programs revenues will be directed back into the creation of more media to help protect and promote traditional scouting and family values. We believe in strengthening families, America and the World, “one scout at a time”.

ScoutMedia believes that there are honorable men and women throughout the world who need new tools to effectively compete against the negative influences of media. ScoutMedia seeks to find these leaders and capture and present their stories of accomplishment to scouts around the world.

Participants are selected based upon their accomplishments and beliefs in traditional scouting values. We believe in discriminating against values which undermine society and families. We promote the values as found in the scout oath, promise, vision and mission statement. We believe in the promotion of values which have withstood the tests of time and upon which the great nations of the world have been built. In particular the values associated with Freedom, Patriotism, Family Honor, Trustworthiness, Loyalty, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean and Reverent.

It is the objectives of ScoutMedia to find stories which will help inspire the youth of the world. We welcome suggestions and input from the global scouting audience. Thank you for your interest and support of ScoutMedia, together we can make a positive impact in the lives of scouts worldwide. ScoutMedia supports traditional scouting values but is not officially endorsed by the National Boy Scouts of America.

Thank you,
Mark Allen,
CEO, ScoutMedia

National Boy Scouts of America
ScoutMedia is not affiliated with the National Boy Scouts of America, however ScoutMedia believes in the mission of the Boy Scouts of America and the role that Scouting can play in the lives of young men globally.

Mission Statement Boy Scouts of America
The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.

Mission Statement ScoutMedia

The mission of the ScoutMedia is to record inspiring stories from National and Global Leaders who support Traditional Scouting Values. These leaders can help young people make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law. These leaders have been witnesses to the efficacy of living true to scouting principles and the consequences which inevitably come to those who choose to not to embrace values such as being trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent.

We seek out the best leaders across the world and give them an opportunity to “pass traditional scouting values from generation to generation”. We do this by harnessing the power of the media and the 21st century tools to provide a relevant framework to the future leaders of the world. We build media around the content as found in the scout oath, law, promise and vision statement of the Boy Scouts of America. We see our role as providing media tools for leaders to use to inspire scouts in conjunction with the traditional scouting program.

ScoutMedia has built an advisory board of great leaders who believe in the timeless values of scouting. A few excerpts from these great men.

Fraser Bullock-CEO 2002 Olympics
“Our young men are being bombarded with incessant messages from the media
that suggest declining standards are acceptable. They desperately need
compelling messages that represent higher standards, which appeal to the
good within them. We are in somewhat of a desperate battle to keep
young men pursuing the good in the world rather than the negatives that
permeate the environment around them. Good people need to work together
to face these challenges and put together the tools and critical mass
necessary to make a difference.

The youth of today's world have become accustomed to a whole new media
of communication and if we are to effectively reach them, we need to
utilize the new tools and means that they will be attracted to. This in
particular will mean utilize visual media such as computers and the
Internet to appeal to them.

Our youth see far too many poor role models in the world today, who in
many cases are held in high esteem. Our youth need more exposure to
great role models who exemplify great character in such a way that our
young men are drawn to them and desire to emulate their good traits.”

Dr. Stephen R. Covey
Author: Seven Habits of Highly Effective People
(speaking on the Genealogy Merit Badge Media)

“The importance and power of family influences can and does make an
enormous difference in the lives of our youth. It is for this reason I
want to stress the importance of traditional scouting values and their
association with Family History and Genealogy.

Many of the most impactful personal experiences in life deal with
family members and special occasions within the family. If you take
these experiences and throw in a few names, record the places and
dates, this is genealogy. Genealogy and the searching for records for
those who have passed away often help us uncover traces of greatness.

We carry much of the same DNA of our forbearers, if they have been able
to overcome great obstacles and tribulation then is it not within our
capacity to also rise above and conquer our every foe?

Mary A. Johnson wrote:

I've always known your names
But,
You were flat people on a white page
Until
I read your stories.
Now you are more than names
And
I know that your blood flows also in
My veins.

To some, family history and genealogy have not yet come to life. As for
me when I think of family history and genealogy I think of my
grandfather and those who helped pave the way for me. I owe a huge
debt to those great men and women. The method to repay them is by
living my life in a manner which would be pleasing to them.

There are many great merit badges, but I firmly believe there is
nothing more important that we can help our youth understand than
knowing their own family history. In that way they will come to know
themselves, we can them help them decide what they will do to bring
honor to their family name. We can guide them to act upon these plans.

In a few short years the leadership positions in the world will have
been passed to the present generation. Let us do all we can
collectively to pass along traditional scouting values from generation
to generation.

Scouting values are timeless, they are critical in today's world. The
darkness which is growing would be displaced if all who lived on earth
would incorporate these timeless values.

When I reflect upon my heritage, I am awed by what the early settlers
and my ancestors accomplished. Their sacrifice on my behalf has helped
pave the way for me to try and make a contribution. It is my
obligation. It is your obligation, too, to find out about your
ancestors, and to honor the good names they have given you. Each choice
we make in life either brings honor to our names or disgrace. One does
not need look far to see those who have forgotten this simple
principle. If you turn on the nightly news or pick up a magazine it is
easy to become bombarded and see stories of those who have forgotten
the simple idea of bringing honor to one’s family name. Money does not
buy it. Fame does not buy it. The simple little actions and deeds add
up over time to become the character for which one will be know
throughout all time.

Thank you and God bless you all.” Dr. Stephen R. Covey
